Carbon footprint of Brazilian cocoa produced in Pará state

چکیده
Abstract Pará is the main cocoa producing state in Brazil. To provide a comprehensive picture of carbon cootprint from production (conventional and organic cultivation systems Brazilian Trans-Amazon Xingu regions), Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol methodology was used to calculate greenhouse gas emissions with focus on impact climate changes. The footprint calculated based original data collected conventional regions State Pará. harvesting, fermentation drying steps were analyzed, collection nine farms, three each type agricultural production: conventional; organic; organic-fairtrade. fruit harvested manually, husk left at field for natural fertilization without composting. small amount inputs, such as herbicides, insecticides fertilizers, are only farms production. Eliminating use nitrogen fertilizers implementing an efficient method composting emission methane air, will be 2.01 kg CO2 eq./kg cocoa, i.e., total reduction 81%.

Including carbon emissions from deforestation in the carbon footprint of Brazilian beef.
Effects of land use changes are starting to be included in estimates of life-cycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, so-called carbon footprints (CFs), from food production. Their omission can lead to serious underestimates, particularly for meat. Here we estimate emissions from the conversion of forest to pasture in the Legal Amazon Region (LAR) of Brazil and present a model to distribute the em...
متن کاملRabies in humans and non-human in the state of Pará, Brazilian Amazon.
We evaluate the relationship of positive cases of rabies with the continuing expansion of livestock production, and analyse the trends of this zoonosis in human population in the state of Pará, Brazilian Amazon. The distribution of rabies cases was recorded between 1999 and 2004. Of 148 cases of rabies, 21% were in humans and 79% in non-human mammals. The rapid growth in livestock numbers seems...
متن کاملEstimation of the Carbon Footprint in Dairy Sheep Farm
By 2050, the earth’s population is expected to be more than 9 billion. The need for secure food and water supply will force agriculture to increase production. The major greenhouse gases (GHGs) from the livestock sector are carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O) throughout the production process. These gases are the key contributor to an in...
متن کاملPotential trajectories of the upcoming forest trading mechanism in Pará State, Brazilian Amazon
In 2012, the Brazilian government revised the federal Forest Code that governs the use of forest resources on rural properties. The revisions included a forest trading mechanism whereby landowners who deforested more than what is legally allowed before 2008 could absolve their deforestation "debts" by purchasing Environmental Reserve Quotas (CRA) from landowners who conserved more forest than l...
متن کاملAlpha-thalassemia (3.7 kb deletion) in a population from the Brazilian Amazon region: Santarém, Pará State.
The ethnic composition of the Brazilian population favors high frequencies of the -alpha3.7 deletion, responsible for alpha-thalassemia, because this mutation is very common in African populations. In spite of its importance, this hemoglobinopathy has been poorly investigated in Brazil, especially at the molecular level. We investigated the prevalence of the -alpha3.7 mutation in 220 individual...
